According to the CDC’s most recent youth data, 40% of U.S. high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, 20% seriously considered attempting suicide, and nearly 1 in 10 reported a suicide attempt.
Among female students, the burden is even heavier: 52.6% reported persistent sadness or hopelessness and 27.1% seriously considered suicide in 2023. CDC also states that suicide remains a leading cause of death, and is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10–14, 15–24, and 25–34.
